Controlled Vocabulary

This page presents the working controlled vocabulary for the Microbial Biosignatures Project. The vocabulary is intended to document the descriptive terms, operational categories, and source definitions used in the microbialites database.

Many terms are adapted from published microbialite terminology, especially Grey and Awramik (2020), while others are operational terms added to support database entry, search, and comparison. Definitions marked provisional should be treated as working definitions open to revision.

Current status: preliminary working vocabulary. Terms and definitions are being reviewed as the database structure and community feedback evolve.

Columns shown below include the category, term, working definition, source information, status, and notes.
